"Information Systems for Science, Cultural Heritage Management & e-Government in Afghanistan"
Workshop of the collaborative research center on "Media and Cultural Communication"
"Information Systems for Science, Cultural Heritage Management & e-Government in Afghanistan"
Date: February 17, 2006
Place: RWTH Aachen University, Aachen, Germany
New! Program
Call for Presentations & System Demos:
Afghanistan is a country with a long history and rich cultural heritage. However, the 20-years-long (civil) war in Afghanistan and the Taliban regime destroyed among others the national science structures and many information systems in Afghanistan. On the way to the new democratic Afghanistan, young Afghans use modern IT technologies to reinstall scientific structures, cultural heritage management and governmental structures. RWTH Aachen University has been involved since 2003 in the efforts of rebuilding capacities in the Antiquities Department of the Afghan Government by improving technical and administrative skills. Intergenerational cooperation on an international level is initiated to bridge the gap between the experiences accumulated by the prior generations and young Afghan professionals who use modern IT (such as GIS and database technologies) in order to reestablish scientific and administrative structures. The aim is to provide communities with an economic, long-lasting, and flexible mobile environment of information systems in order to foster collaborative work of individuals and organizations.
The workshop will discuss current practices and future directions of IT-solutions in the management and administration of Cultural Sites. Proposed and implemented approaches on perspectives of information systems for science, cultural heritage management and e-government in Afghanistan will be presented. We encourage researchers, practitioners and interested parties to present their current research and novel systems.
Presentations should be no longer than 30 minutes with an additional 15 minutes for discussion; system demos should be no longer than 30 minutes. Proposals for presentations with title, type and presenter should be sent to af-ws@i5.informatik.rwth-aachen.de before January, 20, 2006. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Please feel free to send this call to colleagues who might be interested, too.
