The Bid Evaluation Team (BIT) began their evaluation of the Bids shortly after the opening. Later in September, upon completion of their evaluation, the BET’s recommendation as to the Preferred and Reserve Bidders for each of the 4 blocks being tendered will be presented to the Inter-Ministerial Committee (IMC). The recommendations of the IMCwill then be submitted to the Cabinet for final approval. Exploration at Hajigak is expected to commence in 2012, after negotiation of Project Contracts for the deposit. The Hajigak iron ore deposit is situated in the mountainous Bamiyan province, 130 km west of the capital, Kabul. A study in the 1960’s demonstrated the mineral potential of the region, and estimated, at that time, the Hajigak resource as having some 1.8 billion tons of iron ore, with a concentration of approximately 62% Fe.
