Rebuild the Buddhas?

Regarding the article of the Time (link to article) I would be interessted in the opinion of others. What would you argue for, rebuild the big statues or keep the caves as there are to remember also their destruction? At the end of the artice, Governor Sorabi is quoted with a compromise, would this solution be satisfying? Please tell me your opinion and thoughts. best wishes, Niels
